Art Prison #3: "Grab the Uranium" by Craig Atkinson
Grab The Uranium is a collection of recent drawings, which when together create something of a [possibly] factual, dark-ish narrative. The book is about stripy tops, heads on sticks, steps, chaotic happenings and almost real events.
ART PRISON #3: “Grab the Uranium” was printed within the framework of Knust's WORK HOLIDAYS series. "Grab the Uranium" was printed and made collaboratively from October 10th till October 15th, 2011 at Extrapool, Nijmegen, by Craig Atkinson, Jan Dirk de Wilde, Joyce Guley and Maria Guggenbichler.
Edition of 330, 20 stencil printed pages, 190 x 250 mm; The book comes in a red and black UV-ink printed yellow paper cover. It has two round corners, like a notebook, and is hand sewn bound.

"Grab the Uranium" is available for purchase from Extrapool's little shop, the Halfwithal, and at events in Extrapool. The price is 25 € (excl. packaging and postage). For purchase just drop an email to: halfwithal [at] extrapool [dot] nl

encouraging experimentation and mistakes where possible
Craig Atkinson is an artist based in Liverpool, England. He has gained clandestine but wide spread fame for his drawings, which are mostly published in self-released (small) zines. In a very unpretentious way, by paying attention to situations and with a great sense of humour Craig's drawings disclose the details of human tinyness, the everyday, the unpolished. His style might remind you of the US-american, fake-fake outsider artist Chris Johanson (famous for his incredible record covers for Mississippi records). Craig mainly draws on "lived", used, rumpled, faded, stained paper: found material that with its pre-lived existence before being used as drawing paper makes the coincidental and ridicule in the human condition traceable. Craig Atkinson also works and publishes extensively in the field of photography and – famously – runs Café Royal Books, a publishing imprint specialising in short-run artists publications, since 2005.
