Art Prison #1:
"Cactus Inside Frog"

Within the framework of Extrapool / Knust's newly set up series of WORK HOLIDAYS, Johann Kauth, print maker based in Amsterdam, has been staying, working and stencil printing at Extrapool for two weeks.

Johann was the very first artist-in-residence of our WORK HOLIDAYS programme.
He is a well-known and gladly seen planet in the Extrapool universe: during the last years he has played several shows at Extrapool, amongst others under the moniker Fyoelk.
We had wanted to invite Johann for our series of WORK HOLIDAYS because he makes the most beautiful zines, books, publications, prints, tape releases, flyers and posters. You might remember for example the super super poster with a drawn bear-animal on it, which he made for an evening at Extrapool with Moemlien and Eva Rødbro in june 2010.
Johann works with drawings as much as with found objects. Printing, and especially silkscreen and stencil printing, is part of his practice.
Johann lives in a djungle with waterfalls in rewind.

Art Prison #1: "Cactus Inside Frog", the result of Johann's WORK HOLIDAYS at Extrapool in April 2011, contains 30 stencil printed pages of hyper-colourful hybrids of drawings, found photos, nature photography, jungle assemblages: neon / new arrangements with yellow globefishs.

"Cactus Inside Frog" is a 30 pages plusminus A3 sized book;
stencil printed (using 22 different colours of stencil inks),
coming in 4 differently coloured covers (green, blue, brown or black),
cover printed with 2 different colours semi-glossy UV-ink (white and red),
hand-stamped stencil title and back cover;
warm glue bound, edition of 350.

"Cactus Inside Frog" is available for purchase from Extrapool's little shop, the Halfwithal, and at events in Extrapool.
The price is 25 € (excl. packaging and postage).






"Cactus Inside Frog" was made between April 1 and April 12, in collaboration with Joyce Guley, Jan Dirk de Wilde and Maria Guggenbichler.
On the evening of April 12th 2011, we celebrated the launch of "Cactus Inside Frog" with performances by Indias Indios and Francesco Cavaliere & Marcel Türkowsky.
