12 april 2011: Johann Kauth Book Launch PDF Print E-mail

On the evening of April 12th, Extrapool celebrates the launch of Johann Kauth's then freshly finished publication
with music by INDIAS INDIOS and performance by Francesco Cavaliere & Marcel Türkowsky.

Johann Kauth
is the first artist-in-residence of Knust's newly set up series of WORK HOLIDAYS.
Johann Kauth is a well-known and gladly seen planet in the Extrapool universe: during the last years he has played several shows at Extrapool, amongst others under the moniker Fyoelk.
We wanted to invited Johann for our series of WORK HOLIDAYS because he makes the most beautiful zines, books, publications, prints, tape releases, flyers and posters. You might remember the super super poster he made for an evening with Moemlien and Eva Rodbro in june last year with the drawn bear-animal on it.
Johann Kauth works with drawings as much as with found objects. Printing, and especially stencil printing, is part of his artistic practice.
Johann lives in a djungle with waterfalls in rewind.

INDIAS INDIOS

is the name  Benjamin Altermatt gave to a collection of drawings and found images – an archive mostly related to landscapes and their people, as well as abstract forms, vertical miasma and such. During the years the archive has expanded itself to sound collections, as well as to music collaborations with friends.
Benjamin Altermatt is based in Berlin, and is currently working on a lo-fi movie and the respective soundtrack.

MIRROR TRANCE PERFORMANCE ACTION
by Francesco Cavaliere & Marcel Türkowsky

Mirror Trance Performance Action is the result of the alienatingly intimate encounter of Francesco Cavaliere and Marcel Türkowsky:
two lonesome twins discovered at the first moment they met strange parallels and coincidences between them: a selected number of identical instruments, collected from each is the way to a series of actions that are complementary imitating each other.
Schizophrenic narcissism as pure love for the disparate other half: "it is more a transition that we feel that we have to make, a shifting into the invisible side and then these actions and sounds are the images and stories that we have had since the beginning and we always mirror them again and again with different forms and narratives."
Twin brother, feed me with one square meter eternity!

EXTRAPOOL WORK HOLIDAYS

In 2011 Extrapool's stencil print workshop Knust has started a series of WORK HOLIDAYS. This series basically aims to make good + beautiful publications and books. Extrapool's WORK HOLIDAYS are open to artists from all fields – without a restriction to illustrators, (graphic) designers or visual artists. The invited artist spends a working period of about 10 - 14 days at Extrapool / Knust: during this time a publication ("ART PRISON") is collaboratively printed and made.
Besides Johann Kauth the confirmed artists for WORK HOLIDAYS in 2011 are: Anna McCarthy, Arvid Wretman and Craig Atkinson.

FUTURE ANNOUNCEMENT

On wednesday June 8th, Johann will be playing a show at Extrapool (with Fyoelk; together with Container (US) and Unicorn Hard-On (US)).
