Extrapool celebrates the launch of Anna McCarthy's freshly finished publication "Art Prison #2" with a concert by DAMENKAPELLE from Munich!!!

This evening will also see a new Slimtarra wallpaper design by Anna McCarthy.

We have invited Anna to make a publication within the framework of our Work Holidays, as she makes very beautiful art work for music releases (Das Weiße Pferd, 3 Shades). In fact these releases are so beautiful, they made us buy records without even knowing the music on them.
Anna has a great tongue-in-cheek approach towards (artistic) authorship, blurring it through moving in the broadest possible range of media, formats and activities. She ridicules the expectations of what an “artist” is by organising communal events and dadaïst gesamtkunstwerk happenings: Unsere Gäste, FINN collective, Ich dachte man darf alles. In these events as many of her friends as possible take part, making the individual contribution to the final result indistinguishable. 

During the Work Holiday at Extrapool Anna is planning to make a publication, which encompasses her satirical, ongoing, multi-media, multi-layered project How to start a revolution and other projects incorporating her paintings, drawings, lyrics and poems. We are stoked to see how many watercolour drawings this might include!
Anna is also bassist and singer in the band DAMENKAPELLE.

DAMENKAPELLE
DAMENKAPELLE is a band from Munich, consisting of SpandeX, FräuleinMilan0, EatIt, DiePeitschenFrau, sAndra, AntenneDanger, St.Anger and their secretary Fräulein Jablonski.

Reckless dilettantism, daring outfits, a slight obsession with warpaint and an eclectic array of dirty rock 'n' roll jubilees capture the audience's imagination and usually lead to moshing and doing the twist at the very same time.
Without being miserly with their eclectic skills, the 7 artists and their secretary charm their audience with espirit, humour and highly educated, distinct professionalism and live made paper planes.
A fan once put his finger on it when he described DAMENKAPELLE with these succinct words: "motopsychovixensmondoblacksnakewitchescountrypunkelectrorockin'rollmarchingpolkaglamourousgranades".
DAMENKAPELLE will release their first, self-titled album on Echokammer Records on July 8.

Extrapool's Work holidays
Anna McCarthy is the second artist-in-residence of Knust's newly set up series of Work Holidays. This series basically aims to make good + beautiful publications and books. Johann Kauth's "Art Prison #1: Cactus Inside Frog" was the first publication to appear. Further Confirmed artists for Work Holidays in 2011 are Arvid Wretman from Sweden and the british artist Craig Atkinson.
